From the 22nd to 28th March 2025, we celebrate World Birthworker Week — a time to recognise and uplift the incredible individuals who dedicate their lives to supporting women, newborns, and families through the transformative experience of birth.

I'm Theresa, a passionate Hypnobirthing teacher and founder of New Moon Baby. Through my work, I am continually in awe of the strength and dedication of birthworkers, from midwives and doulas to antenatal educators and lactation consultants.

What Is a Birthworker?

Birthworkers are the compassionate guides who stand by your side, offering emotional, physical, and educational support. They provide evidence-based knowledge, empowering parents to make informed decisions and feel confident in their choices. Whether it’s offering comfort measures during labour, facilitating relaxation techniques, or simply lending a listening ear, their presence is invaluable.

The Power of Hypnobirthing Support

Hypnobirthing is all about embracing calmness, releasing fear, and trusting the natural process of birth. Through guided relaxation, visualisation, and breathing techniques, it allows parents to experience birth with a sense of empowerment and ease. As a teacher, I’ve witnessed how the right support can transform the birth experience. When parents feel prepared and informed, they are more likely to have a positive and fulfilling birth journey.

Why Birthworkers Matter

  • Emotional Support: Providing reassurance, encouragement, and a calming presence.

  • Physical Support: Offering hands-on comfort techniques and practical care.

  • Informed Decision-Making: Empowering families with knowledge about their choices and rights.

  • Continuity of Care: Being a familiar and trusted presence throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

A Heartfelt Thank You

To all the birthworkers who show up with unwavering compassion, who celebrate each milestone, and who hold space for parents with kindness — thank you. Your dedication brings strength and confidence to so many, and your work leaves a lasting impact on families.

To Expecting Parents

If you’re preparing to welcome your baby, know that you are not alone. Surround yourself with people who uplift and support you. Birthworkers are here to walk this journey with you, ensuring that you feel empowered, informed, and deeply cared for.

As we celebrate World Birthworker Week, let’s honour the incredible support that helps families enter parenthood with confidence and joy.
